LAUTECH College of Health Sciences Library, Ogbomoso

The College of Health Sciences Library at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, serves as a premier knowledge hub dedicated to supporting medical education, research, and healthcare innovation. Established in July 1998, the library has been instrumental in providing students, faculty, and researchers with access to essential medical and health science resources that enhance learning and professional development. 

Collections and Resources

The library houses a vast collection of medical textbooks, journals, reference materials, electronic databases, and research publications covering diverse areas such as medicine, nursing, physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and public health. With a focus on providing up-to-date and evidence-based resources, the library ensures that users have access to the latest advancements in medical science.

Digital and Electronic Resources

To support modern medical research and learning, the library offers access to:

  • Online databases (e.g., PubMed, HINARI, ScienceDirect)
  • E-books and e-journals
  • Institutional Repository for LAUTECH research publications
  • Medical research software and tools for evidence-based practice

In 2007, the library established a virtual library, and in 2012, an electronic library was added, both supported by the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) of the Nigerian Communication Commission. 

Facilities and Services

The College of Health Sciences Library provides a conducive study environment with the following facilities:

  • Reading halls with comfortable seating and lighting
  • E-library section for access to digital resources
  • Research support services, including literature search and reference management
  • Inter-library loan services for accessing materials from other institutions
  • Wi-Fi connectivity for seamless access to online resources

The library operates an automated system using Koha Integrated Library Management Software for cataloging and classifying materials. Bibliographic details of the library’s collections are digitized and accessible via computer terminals in the main library. The library maintains an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), which allows users to view available resources without searching through all the shelves, thereby enhancing the efficiency of resource location.

Library Operations and Access

The library operates Monday to Friday, with extended hours during examination periods to accommodate students' study needs. Access is granted to registered students, faculty, and researchers, ensuring that the academic community benefits from its rich resources.

As part of its commitment to academic excellence, the College of Health Sciences Library collaborates with medical professionals, researchers, and students to facilitate knowledge exchange, host medical research workshops, and support scholarly publishing initiatives.
