About Olusegun Oke Library

The Olusegun Oke Library (OOL) serves as the central academic library of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Nigeria. Established in July 1990, shortly after the university’s inception, the library was originally known as the LAUTECH Library before being renamed in honor of Professor Olusegun Oke, the university’s pioneering Vice-Chancellor.

As a dynamic center for knowledge, research, and innovation, OOL plays a critical role in advancing teaching, learning, and scholarly research at LAUTECH. Over the years, the library has undergone significant transformation, expanding its physical infrastructure, digital resources, and service delivery to meet the evolving needs of the academic community.

Collections and Digital Resources

The library houses a rich collection of over 42,000 volumes of print materials, including:

  • Monographs
  • Academic journals
  • Newspapers & periodicals
  • Reference books
  • Magazines

In addition to its robust print collection, OOL provides seamless access to over 10 million electronic resources through subscriptions to fourteen leading electronic databases. These resources support research, innovation, and academic excellence across multiple disciplines.

Technology and Automation

To ensure efficient library management and seamless user experience, OOL is fully automated using Koha Integrated Library Management Software, a globally recognized open-source system. This enables users to:

  • Access online catalogs
  • Manage book loans and renewals remotely
  • Perform advanced searches for academic resources

The library is continuously enhancing its digital infrastructure, aligning with global best practices to support open access initiatives, institutional repositories, and emerging technologies in academic librarianship.

Departments and Units

The Olusegun Oke Library is structured into specialized departments and units, each dedicated to delivering efficient, technology-driven, and user-centric services.

Acquisition Unit

The Acquisition Unit is responsible for selecting and acquiring library materials that align with LAUTECH’s academic programs and research needs. The unit also manages donations and gift materials from benefactors, ensuring a rich and diverse collection that supports learning and scholarship.

Cataloguing and Classification Department

This department plays a crucial role in organizing and maintaining the library's vast collection. Utilizing Koha Integrated Library Management Software, it ensures that all materials are accurately cataloged and classified. The Library of Congress Classification (LCC) scheme is employed to provide consistency and compatibility with global library standards, enhancing efficient resource discovery.

Serials Department

The Serials Department manages the library’s collection of journals, magazines, and periodicals. By utilizing the Library of Congress (LC) classification scheme and the Koha library system, it ensures seamless access to up-to-date scholarly materials, supporting advanced research and knowledge dissemination.

Circulation Unit

As the front-line service point of the library, the Circulation Unit facilitates the borrowing, returning, and renewal of library materials. With Koha’s automated tracking system, the unit ensures efficient lending services, clear borrowing policies, and an enhanced user experience.

Virtual Library Unit

The Virtual Library Unit bridges the gap between physical and digital learning by providing remote access to library resources. Services include:

  • E-books and e-journals
  • Online databases and digital repositories
  • Remote access to library catalogs
  • Virtual reference services and research support.

This unit ensures that students and faculty can access critical information anytime, anywhere, promoting academic excellence in a digitally connected world.

Reference Unit

The Reference Unit provides expert research guidance to students, faculty, and researchers. Staffed by experienced librarians, it offers:

  • Research assistance
  • Citation management
  • Inter-library loan services
  • Online reference consultations
    This unit helps users navigate vast information resources, evaluate sources, and develop effective research strategies, fostering lifelong learning and scholarly success.
